I Should Write This Down

Audrey Morales

The 3 AM thoughts whisper
Boat haze back to sleep
My subconscious scenes of the future or past blur
Intrusive yet cannot drift deep

I should write this down.

Free droplets of thoughts stream
Pearls of creativity: lyrical ideas, words, and phrases
Should I write a book? Maybe one scene
A magical world with pirates and sirens

I should write this down.

A mini burst of seemingly endless word vomits of thought
Only conscious me would overthink
Where my existential dread is caught
Who am I? Mind’s ship is about to sink

I should write this down.

The sea creatures’ calls, what am I?
The same who is lost in life and its direction
The same who is a hooked bait at the end of the line
The same who is anchored and undone

I should write this down.

The lulls of dreams flow,
Slumber comes, thoughts are no more.
