Starry Night

When you look up at the vast spattering of stars
so abundant you see the shape of God.
You wonder if the same glow will shine
on everyone. Who even bothers to look up?

But we don’t see the same sky.
We don’t feel the same light.
We don’t find the same guide.
We don’t shine the same way.

You find a star of hope, dimly lit,
distracted by the crowd’s shimmer.
Slowly fluttering about the sky as if it’s
begging for an escape, an embrace.

Of new horizons awaiting you,
of old ideas leaving you,
of wild wanderers willing you,
to shine beyond the orbit of any star.
Gleaming white and bright with your
new incandescent passion for life.
